Esthetician Equipment
by Deborah
If you want to add skin care treatment to the services you offer in your salon you’ll need esthetician equipment along with the regular beauty salon equipment. If you want to branch out and expand your services this is a great way to go because the demand for services like skin care treatment, spa treatments and waxing is high.
Typical Esthetician Services
While a medical esthetician is able to offer advanced services like deep chemical peels (when working with a doctor), services offered in a beauty salon won’t be this intense. Typical services include things like makeup artistry, facials including European facial treatments, skin analysis, pore cleansing, exfoliation treatments and microdermabrasion for the basics.
If you want to offer spa treatments services would include body wraps and body polishes, waxing, foot reflexology, manicures, pedicures and possibly aromatherapy and advice on skin care regimens.
Estheticians are trained to notice skin conditions that may require a dermatologist or other medical professional. But they can also help your clients start a positive skin care regimen that will improve the look and condition of their skin. This helps increase income at your salon as you can sell the skin care products recommended by estheticians, including those specifically used in your beauty shop.
In this case you simply need to buy a retail case to fit the skin care products you decide to carry and sell. Don’t underestimate the power of display. Make sure the products are lined in an organized fashion and that the case is cleaned regularly so it looks pristine.

The exact esthetician equipment you will need will vary depending on what services you wish to provide. If you are just beginning to expand or offer esthetician services you may want to start with the basics and allow room for growth as your business and business needs expand.
Basic esthetician equipment will include skin care equipment and facial equipment, including facial steamers, facial beds and microdermabrasion equipment. Depending on the services you wish to offer it may also include manicure and pedicure equipment, waxing equipment, a sterilizer and a hot towel cabinet.
You will also need a few additional pieces of beauty salon furniture to accommodate these new services. You’ll need a hydraulic bed and hydraulic stool as well as a trolley for specific esthetician equipment and esthetician supplies. If you want to offer other services like manicures and pedicures you will also need furniture to accommodate this, for example a pedicure chair and a manicure table.
You will also need to stock basic esthetician supplies like brushes, applicators, waxing supplies and skin care treatments. Once again the supplies will vary based on what services you decide to offer.
You may be able to find used esthetician equipment, but generally this isn’t as easy to find as used beauty salon equipment or used salon furniture.
Esthetician Training
To become a licensed esthetician education is needed. If you don’t have the experience for this position yourself you will either want to go to school to get the license yourself, or hire a certified esthetician for your beauty shop. Either way you want to make sure you have a trained professional.
While license requirements vary state by state, training to become an esthetician generally requires an average of 300 hours. To become licensed a state license exam must be passed after the training is completed.
By adding an esthetician, either full or part time, and a few pieces of esthetician equipment you can start expanding your services and your client base without having too much difficulty.
